Galadriel RIP 12/2021 |
She's the former queen of the roost. She still tries to boss the other girls around, but someone else tends to take over and push Galadriel around. We purchased Galadriel on April 12, 2018. She's a Rhode Island Red and has been producing eggs for a while now, although she doesn't like the current weather change and her eggs are showing that. Galadriel passed away in the end of December, we believe it was just too cold for her.

Emma Jean, or Idgie as we call her, was purchased with Galadriel back on April 12, 2018. She is also a Rhode Island Red and produced her first egg on Sunday, October 21 - we believe. We had 2 eggs, but we couldn't remember if we took Galadriel's out on Saturday or not. But on Monday, October 22, 2018 we had 2 eggs in the nest boxes which confirms she started laying at least on 10/22/19.

Fluffy Buffy
Fluffy Buffy (on the left) is an Oprington. We picked her up on June 27, 2018 which was 1 day after we heard Bobalina Crowing from the brooding box in the house. Buffy has become the Queen and definitely can be quite bossy. She's the first one out of the coop each morning almost pushing others out of the way. We aren't 100% sure when Buffy started producing eggs, but she is regularly producing now.
Bobalina Blacky RIP 5/14/21Bobalina Blacky (on the right), or Blacky for short, was acquired on the same day as Fluffy Buffy. They stuck together as youngsters, but now-a-days they aren't as close to each other as before. Blacky started laying eggs shortly before Thanksgiving 2018. Blacky passed away on 5/14/21. We aren't sure what happened, she just stopped eating and moving on the 13th and died overnight.

Petie and Bobalina
With the passing of Blacky we decided to get some more chicks. Petie (on the left) is an Easter Egger and Bobalina is a Plymouth Barred Rock. We picked them up from Pickering Feed and Farm on Friday, May 21, 2021. Right now they reside inside the house in a brooder we borrowed from friends. We will be holding them much more often than we did with the others to see if that helps when they go out to the coop to allow us to hold them.

Past Chickens
Not a Bobalina!
Bobalina was acquired with Galadriel and Emma Jean. On June 26, we found out that HE wasn't a SHE as Bob proceeded to Crow in the brooder inside the house. We quickly went out and picked up Buffy and Bobalina Blacky (our daughter was ADAMANT that we have a chicken named Bobalina). 50-50 shot - 'eh?
